Students must reapply for NELFUND loans and maintenance support each academic session. This process aligns applications with each institution’s academic calendar and enrollment records. Reapplication enables NELFUND to:
- Maintain accurate records for both tuition disbursement and upkeep stipends.
- Confirm that students are still actively enrolled in their institutions.
- Match tuition fees with the correct session and semester.
- Prevent fraudulent claims by students who may have dropped out or deferred studies.
For upkeep, students are expected to obtain ₦20,000 per month, per semester, as agreed. However, delays in the inconsistencies and disbursement in the remittance timetable have led to growing frustration among beneficiaries. Reapplying each session assists NELFUND review and update its payment structure while working with institutions to verify active student lists.
Students are urged to always monitor announcements on the official NELFUND portal and reapply promptly when applications for a new session open. Failure to reapply may result in delays or forfeiture of both tuition coverage and upkeep allowances for that academic year.
