Secretaryship Tussle. Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has stable September 22 for the definitive hearing in the legal battle over the authentic National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
StartSmart Nigeria reports that the new date was accepted by all parties during Thursday’s proceedings and marks the first time the case is appearing before Justice Umar, following its reassignment.
The matter was earlier before Justice Inyang Ekwo, who had scheduled March 25 for judgment. However, on the day judgment was to be delivered, Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary, applied to amend his originating process, effectively stalling proceedings. Secretaryship Tussle
Anyanwu had approached the court to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Umar Damagun, the acting National Chairman of the PDP, from acting in his stead or recognising any communication from the party not signed or co-signed by him.
In his ex-parte motion, filed through his counsel Ken Njemanze (SAN), Anyanwu prayed the court to: Restrain INEC from accepting or acting on any correspondence from the PDP that is not signed by him; Stop Damagun from sending any correspondence to INEC on behalf of the PDP without his counter-signature. Justice Ekwo, after hearing arguments from both sides, had earlier entertained the matter before it was reassigned.
