Government has launched a transformative nationwide skills empowerment program designed to equip young Nigerians with essential digital and technical skills, fostering employability and entrepreneurship.
Startsmart Nigeria gathered that this initiative, implemented under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS), is spearheaded by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE). The program aims to bridge the digital skills gap, empower youths with practical tools for innovation, and drive economic growth across Nigeria. Digital Skills
Designed to meet the demands of Nigeria’s fast-growing industries, the Tech Empowerment Program provides hands-on training in high-demand sectors like web development, cybersecurity, and solar installation. These fields are pivotal to Nigeria’s economic future, offering sustainable career paths and entrepreneurial opportunities for youths.
Beyond skill-building, participants receive essential tools such as laptops, tablets, and other digital devices to ensure they’re job-ready or equipped to launch their ventures. This initiative eliminates barriers to entry, enabling beneficiaries to thrive in a competitive digital economy.
According to officials, the Tech Empowerment Program aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030. By prioritizing technical skills and self-reliance over dependency, the program fosters sustainable economic growth and innovation.
“This isn’t just about training people for jobs; it’s about preparing a new generation of Nigerians who can innovate, lead, and compete both locally and globally,” a representative from OSSAP-TVEE said during the launch. Digital Skills
The programme will run across several states, particularly focusing on underserved areas where unemployment remains high. It aims to bridge the digital divide, open up new career paths for young people, and support inclusive economic growth.
Implementation will be carried out in collaboration with training institutions, tech hubs, and private sector partners to ensure quality delivery and real-world impact. This move also supports Nigeria’s broader national priorities in education, job creation, and building a knowledge-based economy.
In the coming months, as the programme unfolds, the government hopes to unlock the entrepreneurial and innovative potential of Nigerian youth, laying the groundwork for a stronger, more self-sufficient society.
